Geico insurance is one of the largest auto insurers in the United States with over six million policyholders. As a result of a successful advertising campaign and a website with a good reputation, Geico insurance has increased in popularity recently. Geico insurance is best known for their mascot campaign featuring the Gecko.
Company History
In 1936 Geico insurance was started by Leo and Lillian Goodwin who wanted to sell auto insurance at a low cost directly to the customers. The first Geico insurance policies were made under the company name Government Employees Insurance Company and they primarily offered policies to federal workers and high level military officers in the Washington, D.C. area. In just one year Geico insurance signed on close to four thousand drivers.
As Geico insurance increased in popularity they were able to branch out in the policies they offer. Currently Geico insurance offers policies for motorcycles, boats, home and rentals in addition to their large auto insurance policy coverage. The company was able to reach more customers in 1995 when they became a subsidiary of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway which is an investment firm.
Geico’s user friendly website makes it very easy for individuals to purchase insurance. The Webby Awards gave Geico the 2005 award for the best insurance website. On their website you can take ten minutes to fill out a form and get a free rate quote. After receiving your quote you will be able to decide if you would like to purchase a Geico insurance policy or stick with your current insurance policy.
Customer Benefits with Geico Insurance
Geico’s website also makes it easy for customers to manage their policy. From their website customers can pay premiums, file claims, change their deductible plan and add any new drivers or vehicles to their policy. The company also has the option for customers to receive their bills and policy notices through their email account.
If you have an accident while you are with Geico then it is also a very easy process. An insurance adjuster will come to meet you at one of their approved mechanic shops. The adjuster will then go over the damage with you and help you fill out the forms for your claim. In addition, your repairs are guaranteed when you use an approved Geico mechanic shop.
